Both the Old Boys and Mohawks were in action in the opening week of the new WEBBA Basketball League Cup Season.
Old Boys were at Home to Braves III and as the first Lockleaze team in action started the season with a good win. Closer than maybe it should have been the Old Boys managed to grind out a win vs a dogged Braves performance, the visitors never giving up.
Old Boys put on an inside players Master Class with Abe Ahmed and Andy Broughton tearing the Braves defence apart, their post play and ability to get to the basket was something Braves could not cope with. Although Braves clung on and fought hard it just wasnt enough and the Old Boys claimed the win. Abe Ahmed getting the MVP Honours.
The Mohawks started the season with a Big win over a short handed Southside team, it was a great way to welcome some new players to the squad and really share those minutes. Antonio, Jakub, Gabbie and Yemi all made debut appearances for the Mohawks, they did so with real impact, each one fitting into the clubs style of play and ethos perfectly. James Read also made a Lockleaze return after a few years absence and also made a great contribution to the teams perfromance especially defensively.
Joe Packwood was the nights MVP after he hit 6 Triples in a row in the third quarter despite the Southside teams efforts to deny him the ball which really put the nail in the Southside coffin.
Mohawks ran away with the game with a comfortable 95 point to 40 point victory and now move to the Cup Quarter finals where they will face Hengrove away from home in early December.
