2016 Season about to begin!!

The 2016 Season is about to begin and its been a busy summer.

In fact last Season saw a lot of new things happen with Lockleaze Basketball Club. Sadly the website was unable to keep up with the details, this season however things are set to change. The Webite is to be relaunched with a few additional sections and updated over the coming weeks.

The webiste will regularly be updated from now on. Keep an eye on whats going on.

So whats been happening. On the Basketball front its been another big year. Mohawks got promoted to DIV I, OLD BOYS had a solid mid atble finish in Division I, The Renegades and Mohawks won the Summer Regular Season Glozball Leagues based at Gloucestershire College. The Two School satelitte Clubs based at St Bedes and Oasis Brightstowe have had another successful year with lots of the players also taking their skills down to the Bristol Storm Junior Sessions.

WEBBA will now have 3 Divisions and after discussions the Lockleaze Teams will have the Mohawks in Division I and the Old Boys in Division II. This decision was made to help further develop the club with the opportunities to play at the right level for its members.

Behind the scenes Lockleaze joined the Bristol Basketball Association with Bristol Storm, Bristol Braves, Mavericks and Bristol Spartans and all of the teams associated with the clubs involved. This has been hugely successful with Development money from player licences going directly yo the clubs to aid further club development in the future not building a bank balance in another associations development fund which is what had happened previously.

With the new association came new opportunities, we have gained in the number of coaches working within the association, the number of referees and officials have all also increased as working together provides more opportunities to grow the game.

As a direct link to this change the Brizball and Glozball Central Venue Leagues (CVL) have emerged, providing CVL compettitions for seniors and juniors alike, cutting the costs of playing and reducing the impact on busy weeks with a Central Venue for competition, a set day for the leagues and the same amount of travel each time. The CVL leagues also allow for officials to be in one venue for more than one game cutting the need for large numbers of officials.

The CVL leagues have seen Junior and Senior Compettitons take place during the season and into the 2016 season will see CVL opportunities emerge for u10/12/14/16/18/22 Seniors and Women. This is a huge growth and shows the importance and popularity of such Leagues.

So in a nutshell its going to be a big season for basketball!!!

To end the 2016/17 season there will be a Presentation night for the whole association where each teams awards will be handed out, this will bring together a whole Basketball Community and celebrate the game we love, juniors and seniors alike!!
