LOCKLEAZE RENEGADES AFTER AN 88 POINT TO 56 POINT VICTORY OVER EMPEES TO WIN THE 2014/15 WEBBA TITLE.
The Final 10 Days
Renegades had to wait until the final game of the season to win the 2014 15 WEBBA Division I title in a race that went down to the wire. Swindon Shock 1 and Bristol University were both still in the title race just 1 week from the end of the season. Renegades had to play 3 games in 10 days which included 3 top 4 teams in order to win the title and any loss would have meant they would be bridesmaids.
First game was a tough visit to Bristol University who until this point were themeselves still in the title race but on this occassion the Renegades walked away with a 12 point victory in a game which they controlled from Start to finish.
Second saw the Renegades travel to Braves I in a very tough physical encounter which again resulted in a similar vein to the Friday night Uni game with the Renegades controlling the game from start to finish and taking another double digit win.
This now set up the season finale against a very experienced and much bigger Empees team who have proven year after year to be one of WEBBA's most consistent top 3 teams. Anything but a perfect game from the Renegades could result in a loss.
Renegades from start to finish executed the game plan to perfection! They put huge amounts of pressure on the Empees team defensively and offensively converted simple fast break points to break open a first quarter double digit lead. In the Half court the Renegades moved the ball better than they have done all season, slick passing, penetration and some great shooting from the outside saw the team dominate. Mike Keith was a sensation once more really taking the bull by the horns and making good decisions time after time, Anton Pritchard began to find his way in the second quarter with some fantastic penetration and some excellent passing to find wide open Ben Lakin, Jermaine Major, Karl Walker and Kash Baptiste for simple finishes.
Hans Soghe and Lee Treasure were a defensive super duo who forced numerous Empees errors from their glove like defence. Traesure shooting a perfect 8 from 8 from the free throw line to match his slick defensive perfomance.Jermaine Major's Captain like performance saw him dominate offensively in the third quarter making some of his trademark buckets which are often far from conventional. The Renegades now led by twenty plus points and unlike games prior they did not let anything sli; the momentum continued. Kev Thomas, Nathan Doe and Patryk Kaczuba wrapped up the game with more defensive effort and composed basketball to see the Renegades Cruise to an 88 point to 56 point victory in a very tough encounter. This included Kev Thomas's Banked three from the top (Which he clearly called!!!)
Empees put up stubborn resitance and at times if Renegades had not returned fire with fire could have brought the scores much closer particularly as the First half played out. The Composure, belief in one another and the close team ethic that Renegades have developed this season was never more evident than in this game.
To Top off the performance was the final shout from the team huddle which rang out loud and clear "4KEVIN". No more fitting a win or performance has been seen by the club to remember our friend and team mate almost a year to the day since his passing.
PROUD, PROUD, PROUD Moments for all of those players involved in the Renegades this season. A true team effort and well deserved league win.
Back to business though as we still have a say in the Trophy and Cup Quarter finals. Could it be a clean sweep?
