Both the Old Boys and Mohawks were in action in the opening week of the new WEBBA Basketball League Cup Season.

Old Boys were at Home to Braves III and as the first Lockleaze team in action started the season with a good win. Closer than maybe it should have been the Old Boys managed to grind out a win vs a dogged Braves performance, the visitors never giving up.

Old Boys' teamwork beats one-man band in Plate Final.

Posted by THE BOSS on May 13, 2015 at 2:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Despite a slow start – we didn’t trouble the scorer until the 5th minute – Old Boys got going to retain the Webba Plate by showing newcomers and 3rd Division Champions Hengrove Park that there’s no I in team. Both teams struggled in the opening minutes, but Hengrove got off the mark to score in the 2nd and the 4th for a short-lived lead. Andy made his first of many visits to the line in the 5th but, unusually for him, missed the ...

Old Boys come back from the dead to haunt Bulls again.

Posted by THE BOSS on April 29, 2015 at 7:40 AM Comments comments (0)

Bristol Bulls got to within 0.4 seconds away from their dream of reaching their second final of this season before an under-strength Old Boys squad turned it into a nightmare. Old Boys - with several key regulars missing because of other commitments, with Tony playing with whiplash from last week’s collision, and Pete trying to play with a chest infection - scored first through an inside move by Andy but then failed to convert for the next five min...

Old Boys catch cold from Thunderstorm.

Posted by THE BOSS on April 21, 2015 at 5:30 AM Comments comments (0)

Old Boys took their fourth 1st Division opponents of this Trophy campaign close in the semi-final, but were undone by a dreadful third quarter. With our 7-point starting advantage Andy got our first score in the D to go 9-0, but Storm hit straight back with their own inside score and the first of four triples in the first quarter. Abe scored three inside buckets, while Andy got one more and Keenan and Rahquon got one apiece to see us end the quarter fou...

Old Boys put the Flames out again.

Posted by THE BOSS on March 27, 2015 at 6:00 AM Comments comments (0)

Old Boys reached the semi-finals of The Plate by beating Olympiad Flames for the third time this season. We got off to a flyer by restricting them to just 10 points on their own court in the first quarter, while we spread the ball around to score 17, with Abe getting 6 inside, Andy 5, Chris 4 and Rahquon 2. Abe got the first score of the second period, too, with another strong rebound and put-back. Tony made the second of a pair of frees, then we went ...

LOCKLEAZE RENEGADES AFTER AN 88 POINT TO 56 POINT VICTORY OVER EMPEES TO WIN THE 2014/15 WEBBA TITLE.

The Final 10 Days

Old Boys scupper Pirates.

Posted by THE BOSS on March 21, 2015 at 6:15 AM Comments comments (0)

Old Boys made it five wins out of five in the Trophy, twice coming from behind in the dying seconds in an overtime thriller to sink Pirates by 93-91 in this quarterfinal. Keenan has had an amazing run in the last few games and he got us off the mark tonight with a triple in the first minute, but then had a quiet quarter for him, only adding one more bucket on the drive in the 8th. But he would turn the afterburners on again in spectacular fashion later....

Old Boys torment Bulls again.

Posted by THE BOSS on March 16, 2015 at 9:00 AM Comments comments (0)

In the last league match of the season for both teams Old Boys did enough damage in a dominant first quarter to see them through the game. Keenan continued his current streak of form with another 9-point quarter, scoring two more of his trademark defence-splitting lay-ups and 5 from 8 from the line. Abe had a strong first one, too, with two made baskets in the paint and 3 of five frees, while Rahquon chipped in with two buckets from the post. Our solid...

Old Boys drive off Cavaliers.

Posted by THE BOSS on March 12, 2015 at 9:15 AM Comments comments (0)

It was vital for Old Boys to bounce back from last week’s defeat to Comets to retain a hope of winning the division title. This week’s visitors were Premier Inn Cavaliers 40 who, having already just scraped the win in the game in Swindon in October, were confident of their chances. Old Boys started with strong intent and maintained it to win the first three quarters. Cavs’ MVP scored the first points, but Keenan, Rahquon and Abe all s...

Old Boys burned by Comets in battle for top of the table.

Posted by THE BOSS on March 6, 2015 at 11:50 AM Comments comments (0)

Comets dented Old Boys’ title hopes in a close-run game that went to the wire in Gordano. Rahquon was off the mark from the low post in the first minute but Comets hit straight back to take their first lead with the first of nine three-pointers. They followed that with a two and another three for an early 8-3 lead, with our only other score in the first 4 minutes being one of a pair from Abe. We came back strongly in the middle of the quarter wit...

Old Boys ground Jets again.

Posted by THE BOSS on February 27, 2015 at 12:30 AM Comments comments (0)

Old Boys left Jets grounded on the runway for the third time this season in the most comprehensive win of the three. The away league game in October was a tense 6-point win where we struggled all game and the Trophy game earlier this month was a comfortable 26-pointer for us. We fired on all cylinders at home in the league in this one, though, to finish with a 32-point margin on 79-47.

With Chris and Lee run...

Old Boys overpower Mohawks again to stay top of the division.

Posted by THE BOSS on February 21, 2015 at 12:15 AM Comments comments (0)

In the first regular season game for both teams after the Trophy pool matches, an almost full-strength Old Boys proved too powerful for the seven Mohawks fit and well enough to play. Old Boys were first to move the scoreboard in the 1st minute with the first of many inside moves from Andy Broughton. Nick Watt levelled the scores with a mid-range jumper in the 2nd, but Andy and Rahquon stretched it again before Adam scored Mohawk’s second basket in the 4th. Two more fake and drive mov...

Old Boys stop Jets taking off.

Posted by THE BOSS on February 10, 2015 at 9:50 AM Comments comments (0)

Lockleaze Old Boys made it four wins out of four in the Trophy, beating Olympus Jets by 65-49 in another convincing display by the whole squad. Jets had a 3-point head start but our mobile 3-2 zone prevented them from adding to it until the 4th minute and then went on to stop them from scoring for another 5 minutes after that. We held them to just 6 points in the first quarter while scoring 21 of our own for a 12 point lead. Rahquon started us off by s...

Old Boys crush Braves III.

Posted by THE BOSS on February 5, 2015 at 12:05 AM Comments comments (0)

Lockleaze Old Boys met Braves 3 again in their third match of this year’s Trophy competition. Having beaten them by one point in last season’s pool game but lost on paper because of a tabling error, Old Boys were well up for avenging that loss. Again we were forced to play without top scorer Andy when it was clear that we only had one referee and he volunteered to whistle so that the game could go ahead (thanks for that, big man!). Braves started the game with a +19 advantage &...

Old Boys arrest Empees.

Posted by THE BOSS on January 27, 2015 at 7:25 AM Comments comments (0)

Lockleaze Old Boys have come up against two first division sides so far in this Trophy campaign and beat them both by 15 points. This week’s opponents were Empees C, a mix of their first and 3rd division teams but, crucially, containing six first team players. Old Boys’ handicap advantage was 21 points, but they only needed that help in the fourth quarter, always cruising 21+ points ahead for the first three periods. Keenan made our first s...
